High Hopes for a DVD release of hit Valleys shows – Glamorgan Gazette 2006

If you hadn’t noticed or read your local South Wales Gazette on Thursday, December 28th then you missed out!

We had an article written promoting the website and the ongoing petitions that have we’ve been campaigning with over the past few months.

Taking up almost a half-page spread, this was an ey-catching article with two nice photo’s from both shows and was in the entertainment section of the paper, no one could miss it! This article cutting is taken from the Glamorgan Gazette, however, I’ve been informed that i was indeed in all of the sister Gazettes (Gwent, Swansea etc.).

For your enjoyment, I’ve put the article up on the site for all to read. Unfortunately the paper will never be sold again with the article in it, so we wanted to preserve the moment!

A very many thanks to Andrew Pearson (a freelance journalist based in South Wales) for all of his hard work and continued efforts to help promote the petitions and get a DVD release! He has been working closely with us over the past month or so and has been bending over backwards to get the press to take notice…thank you.

Unfortunately, not at any fault of Andrews, the article was slightly changed and the changes were for the worse as you can see there were a few spelling mistakes (my name being one of them!) and the grammar was a bit bad too! However I’ve changed all that in the writeup below.

If you have not yet signed the petitions, please do so by visiting our DVD page and sign your interest on each of the four petitions in order to help get the shows we love so dearly released!

For those who may not be able to read the article (shown right) here it is…

High Hopes for a DVD release of hit Valleys shows

FANS of a BAFTA Cymru-winning TV series are campaigning for its release on DVD – and they’re hoping for your support.

Classic sitcom Satellite City ran between 1996 and 1999, making a name for itself with its affectionate portrayal of Valleys life.

Set in a fictional town known for its high density of satellite dishes, it told the story of a young American, Randy who was taken in by the price family.

Although at first he had to share a bed with grandad Idris (Note: he’s not a grandad!), by the end of the third and final series he moved into a house of his own with sweetheart Mandy.

Written by Boyd Clack, who also played Idris’s son Gwynne, the show has never been shown outside Wales, but still occasionally pops up on digital channels of its home network, the BBC.

Now an online petition is calling for the show to be released on DVD.

Jonathan Thomas, who runs the website from his Bridgend home, said: “For years many people who love the show have wanted commercial releases, but nothing has materialised.”

We’re determined to make the Beeb aware of the large fan base attached to the show.”

Jonathan is also hoping to secure a release for another Boyd Clack-authored show, High Hopes.

The 23-year-old multimedia design student said: “I implore people who would like to see releases of these shows to sign our petitions.”

Rhondda-raised Boyd Clack said: “People ask me about this all the time. I’ve asked the BBC, I’ve asked our production company but I still can’t answer this question – perhaps it’s something to do with some sort of political intrigue.”
