Launching the Creative Young Persons Competitions for 2011 Kirsten spoke on the theme of Women as Agents of Change – to think about the opportunities and barriers faced by women around the world and the role they play in your communities and countries. For 2011 launching the International Commonwealth Essay Competition for Schools – the oldest and largest essay competition in the world which has been run for the last 100 years.
Addressing the school children who had come to enjoy creative activities at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff to celebrate Commonwealth Day on 14th March, Kirsten also introduced the Commonwealth Photographic and Vision Competitions of 2011 – to enter with an essay, story, poem, film script or play or even make a 4 minute film the possiblities are endless. The children entertained us with some fabulous drumming too. Last year 3 young people from Wales won Bronze Awards – Schools from Wales entering for the first time – and there were over 50,000 entries globally from over 50 countries involved. In the evening Boyd and Kirsten were guests at the Senedd at the Commonwealth gala evening.
