It is with great sadness that we bring you the news of Islwyn Morris’ passing at the age of 90.
Best known for his role in Satellite City as Idris (Dad), he was the star of the show in so many ways and to my mind will always be the reason I remembered Satellite City.
Boyd Clack, who wrote and starred in Satellite City, told the BBC that Swansea-born Mr Morris was “a great actor” and “a great man.”
“Islwyn will always be remembered not only for his notable acting talent but for also being a true gentleman”
“He played my father in Satellite City. I lost my father when I was young and I thought of him in a few ways as being a father figure.
“For the first time he became recognised by people in Wales – he thought it was funny, he quite enjoyed it.
“He was very much a family man and his faith meant a lot to him. Being with him was a constant pleasure.”
- Boyd Clack
Islwyn was born in Swansea and starred in Welsh langauge drama Pobol y Cwm for over 25 years.
Islwyn, you will be missed, you will go down in history as one of Wales’ best talents.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family.

RIP Islwyn. What a fab part you have played in the hearts of us Welsh with your turn in Satellite City, High Hopes and Pobol y Cwm. I gather you started at The Palace in High Street Swansea, a building I see everyday from my office at work. What a fab life you must have had and what fab times we had watching you. Cariad mawr a cwtches i ti hefyd. xx
God Bless you Islwyn – a true gentleman who will be missed by many xx
I’m totally saddened by the loss of Islwyn. He WAS satellite City !!.
Islwyn was a gentle and perceptive figure in the crazy house that was Satellite City. During breaks between filming he would sit quietly observing the likes of Boyd and me being hysterical with a quite smile. Sitting down with him and talking about the craft of acting or about the ways of the world was a real pleasure. He understood people and was ready to give younger actors measured advice and support. When you look back on his performances and compare Idris’ kaleidoscope rantings and musings with the modesty and wisdom of Islwyn, you realise what a great actor this man was. His comic timing and humanity was as great as any British actor of the modern age. He is up there with Ronnie Barker and David Jason. I consider it an honour to have worked with him.
Have only just heard about the death of Islwyn Morris. I’m very sad to hear this, and condolencses to his family
its very sad new’s that this great actor is no longer with us. but Islwyn will always be with us here when i watch an episode of satellite City R.I.P Islwyn .
I’m very sad news to hear of Islwyn Morris’s passing. As huge fans of Satalite City and High hopes we were chuffed to bits one day to bump into the great man whilst out shopping in the city centre with my family in 1999 and then again whilst visiting my fathers grave at Morriston cemetery 2008. On both occations he was very approachable, extremly friendly and gracious and took the time to chat with us about the weather and life in general. He was a true gentleman who was quietly spoken, down to earth and like fellow his fellow Swansea born actress the late Margret John will be sorely missed and is a great loss to people of Swansea, welsh comedy and Wales itself. Thanks Islwyn!
A very fine man indeed. R. I. P.
