Boyd Clack Biography
A graduate of the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Boyd Clack has worked in every medium, from television roles, to sitcom writing and worked on theatrical one man shows. In 2009, Boyd was part of a three man Welsh team captained by Eddie Butler and alongside Rhod Gilbert on the popular sports quiz show, ‘High Tackle’, made by BBC Wales. He has emerged as a figure of great talent and stature within Welsh performing arts, and holds maybe a cult status amongst fans. Boyd clack is a true genius in his field and continues to impress and delight us with quality and genuinely hilarious yet thought provoking shows.
After his graduation from WCMAD in 1986 Mr. Clack began working in both film and theatre, from 1989 – 2000 he worked in a number of roles; including Karl Francis’ Angry Earth, the festival award winning film The Testament of Taliesin Jones and even the popular Welsh film Twin Town, made by Keith Allen.
Over the years he has also had a number of television roles, in 1995 he acted in the Andrew Davies scribed TV series Final Cut, and in 2001; A Small Summer Party, a spin-off from the popular Marion and Geoff comedy series.
Boyd has also starred on television in roles written himself. In 1991 he presented a play at the Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff; fondly known as Satellite City. The play went on to radio and then in 1996 (to 1999) Boyd co-wrote and starred in three series’ and a special, which went on to win a BAFTA Cymru award for ‘Best Light Entertainment’.
Following the massive domestic success of Satellite City Boyd then went on to write the popular Welsh TV series High Hopes. The pilot episode originally aired in June, 1999, across Britain. However it was not until three years later in 2002 that the pilot became a series, where it emerged as a lighter sort of comedy, but unfortunately unlike the pilot, the series has only ever aired in Wales. In 2009 Satellite City got it’s long overdue DVD release.
Other than his film and television work Boyd has also done a great deal of theatre work, performing in Shakespeare plays and his own one-man shows at the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.
Boyd has a great passion for his local community, and the underprivileged youth of the valleys. He grew up in the Rhondda spending a lot of his time writing in Tonyrefail, being inspired by the beautiful surroundings in the Welsh valleys. He devotes a lot of his time attending local school events as well as working with young people, and the ‘Valleys Kids’ charity, one of his projects involved helping youngsters to make a low-budget short film.
Boyd is also the Patron of Mental Health Support Organisation – New Horizons.
In 2007 Boyd Clack released his first Album with his group – Boyd Clack and the Lemmings. In the 80’s, Boyd was involved with a group called the Lemmings, he recaptured the memories and set up a new band as a tribute to that era of his life. Although much of the material was new, the album still paid homage to that of the original Lemmings! In December 2009, Boyd released a second album named Welsh Bitter, containing the songs of the first album, but rather, remastered and in some cases, re-recorded. Welsh Bitter, was released through major retail outlets and was met with critical acclaim.
