Some of you may or may not know that I am a huge CD and DVD collector, sad, I know! However, since I started, I’ve always had a passion to see more releases from Welsh talent that I’ve appreciated over the years. That’s why I started the campaign for Satellite City on DVD.

Christmas 2009 sees the release of more and more Welsh artists unleashing their gifts for all the world to see, more so than ever before. As it’s Christmas, I thought I’d put a different slant on the “If you like Satellite City, then you’ll love…” cliché.

Rhod Gilbert and the Award-Winning Mince Pie – This comedy show from the Welsh comedian comes to DVD with extras including a Llanbobl featurette, the fictional Welsh town which forms the basis of most of his stand-up. Plus Rhod’s ‘luggage rant’, which is one of the hottest stand-up clips on YouTube – attracting almost 4.5million views.

Ever since I saw Rhod do the warm up for the High Hopes Christmas special, I have been hooked on his addictive blend of full blooded Welsh, sarcastic and often bleak outlook on the “real world”. He invites you in to his own imaginary world, where life is so much better! If you get a chance, see him live, you won’t regret it!

Rob Brydon Live

Rob Brydon Live – This DVD follows Rob’s sell-out national tour across the UK and comes with extras including: Rob on Tour, It’s Hal Out There, Rob’s Road Cam.

Once a star of Satellite City, in the very early days, before it’s television incarnation, and was destined to be massive. I did not get a chance to see him live but this DVD is a must have for any fan, especially if you like Gavin and Stacey, Uncle Bryn makes me laugh every time!

Wales Grand Slam 2005 & 2008 DVDs

Words will never describe the day we won the Grand Slam in 2005! I was sitting in a car in a car park in Bristol, when the final whistle blew, I shouted on the top storey… “WAAAAYUUUULS!” (Translated: Wales.)

Then, three years later, we repeated the feat in spectacular fashion! Nothing will compare to those two amazing six-nation campaigns and roll on 2010 when we will, hopefully, get back, with a vengeance…and less injuries!

Gavin and Stacey – The Complete Collection

Winner of two Baftas and four British Comedy awards, Gavin & Stacey is poignant, genuine and hilarious – one of the stand-out comedy series of the 21st Century.

As the end of an era beacons, Gavin and Stacey is one of Wales’ success stories of the few years. Written by the talented Ruth Jones and James Corden, it has brought smiles to people’s faces, which in this day and age cannot be taken for granted. Fondly, we say goodbye and thank you for Gavin and Stacey!

Satellite City – The Complete Collection DVD

And finally, if you’re a fan of Satellite City, then you will not be able to live without the DVD. The list wouldn’t be complete without this gem! One of the defining Welsh sitcoms of all time and always keeps giving…even ten years later! Roll on 2010, when we may see the Radio series on CD!

Go and grab it while you can and get those orders in so we can prove that Satellite City was worth it!

Twin Town

Producer Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) is behind this decadent comedy about a pair of lowlife but oddly intelligent Welsh brothers who generally make a pain of themselves in their small community, but who get serious about exacting revenge for a family tragedy. Director Kevin Allen succeeds at turning the entire film into a jacked-up freak show, with petty terrorism, cops on the take, a young virgin getting it on with a middle-aged creep and a male choir inexplicably singing Mungo Jerry’s ancient hit “In the Summertime”. Twin Town is loony, nasty stuff all around, but the only good laughs in the movie are top loaded into the first few minutes. After that, it’s sheer tedium. –Tom Keogh

Mine All Mine

Griff Rhys Jones stars as bumbling eccentric Max, alongside Ruth Madoc, in a darkly comic tale of love, betrayal and reality television, created by Russell T Davies, the highly acclaimed writer of the TV dramas Bob and Rose, Queer as Folk and The Second Coming.

Max Vivaldi doesn’t have much in life, but he does have a dream. According to a faded legal document written in the year 1710, his family owns the whole of Swansea. The will has been passed down through twelve generations and is now framed on the living room wall of the Vivaldi household.

His neighbours, his friends, even his wife and three children, all laugh at Max whenever he brings up the subject of his inheritance – just as his father and his father before him were ridiculed for their declarations. The Vivaldi claim is a running joke in this picturesque part of the South Wales coast. Max thinks he owns the area where he lives, known as ‘the Mumbles’, but everyone else thinks it’s a load of mumbo jumbo.

Until one day his incredible claim is proved to be true.

Grand Slam

In this film version of Gwenlyn Parry’s classic comedy, we discover that for a bunch of Welsh supporters, the words ‘grand slam’ can mean a host of different things, especially when included in the bunch, are an undertaker, the son of an undertaker, a boutique owner and a French hostess. The motley crew travels to Paris where they intend to bellow their support from the stadium hosting the France vs. Wales Rugby International, however the challenges that arise between the disagreeable bunch in the stands, prove almost more daunting than those facing the players on the pitch.

House of America

In a rundown village in South Wales brother and sister Sid and Gwenny attempt to escape from their mundane life with their mad mother and boring brother Boyo by imagining that they are in America with their runaway father Clem…

House of America won a number of awards including ten BAFTA Wales awards and best film at Gothenburg Film Festival.

The Testimony of Taliesin Jones (Small Miracles)

A coming-of-age story about a 12-year-old boy (John Paul Macleod) whose mother (Geraldine James) leaves home with her hairdresser and leaves Taliesin behind with his distracted father (Jonathan Pryce), sullen brother (Matthew Rhys) and his own creeping uncertainty in trying to make sense of this sudden conspiracy of events. It is when he meets elderly Billy Evans (Ian Bannen), piano teacher and part-time healer, that Taliesin finds a source of miracles that transform his life.

His rage builds until his last day is turned upside down by the kindness of a young woman in a wheelchair. Just moments from his own end, Max finds hope but is it too late to fix what is broken?
